HFC 60th Anniversary Video Series Part 7 - ES-52 Kookaburra at Wimmera Soaring Club

As part of the 60th Anniversary of the Horsham Flying Club, originally formed as the Wimmera Soaring Club in 1963 we are releasing a series of videos on the history of the club.

To continue our 60th Anniversary video series, this time we are look at the introduction of the Edmund Schneider designed ES-52 Kookaburra. The club finally got the the seater it originally wanted, but couldn't obtain nor at first afford.

Another of our 60th Anniversary videos. This time an interview with founding member, Max Hedt. Thursday 20 July 2023 is 60 years on from when the the Wimmera Soaring Club made the first flight of their T31b glider from Nhill Aerodrome to Horsham with an outlanding at Dimboola on the way. In this 2013 interview Max Hedt talks about the early weeks of flying operations alongside Curran Road at Horsham. The interview was filmed outside and is subject to wind noise and the sound of passing cars.

HFC 60th Anniversary Video Series Part 3 - The Nymph

As part of the 60th Anniversary of the Horsham Flying Club, originally formed as the Wimmera Soaring Club in 1963 we are releasing a series of videos on the history of the club. 


Part 3 - The club's second glider the ES-56 Nymph 

Another 60th Anniversary video, this time we're looking at the club's second glider. The ES-56 Nymph, a design of Edmund Schneider built in South Australia. The club's Nymph was one of only four built. One remains flying today.




HFC 60th Anniversary Video Series Part 2 - The T31

As part of the 60th Anniversary of the Horsham Flying Club, originally formed as the Wimmera Soaring Club in 1963 we are releasing a series of videos on the history of the club. 

Part 2 - T31 for Wimmera Soaring Club. 

Now that the club had been formed, it needed something to fly. After an initial search for a suitable two seater they found a syndicate in New South Wales with a Slingsby T31b for sale. It was purchased and brought into service in July 1963.

 

HFC 60th Anniversary Video Series Part 1 - Andrew Balsillie & the Yellow Kestrel

As part of the 60th Anniversary of the Horsham Flying Club, originally formed as the Wimmera Soaring Club in 1963 we are releasing a series of videos on the history of the club. 

Part 1 - Horsham had a gliding club before 1963 

Horsham has a gliding history that predates the formation of the club in 1963. This video goes back to the late 1930s when local projectionist Andrew Balsillie helped form a local gliding club while building his own glider in his back yard.

Horsham Flying Club 60th Anniversary

This year the Horsham Flying Club, formally the Wimmera Soaring Club is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. The club was formed following a gliding demonstation by members of the Sunraysia Gliding Club and a subsequent public meeting at the Horsham Town Hall in March 1963. As part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations the club is holding a dinner on the 19th of August at Westside Horsham. This is the venue operated by the racing club in Bennett Road.
