Successful Come'n'try Day

The come and try day held on Sunday 24th October was a great success. Twenty five people took up the opportunity to have a short introductory flight in a glider. Each person who flew paid $20 to cover the cost of GFA Introductory membership. the club covered the cost of the aerotow behind the Jabiru 230 and the flight in the Twin Astir. The first flight took off about 11.30am and the last was flown just before 6pm. Each launch was to 1000 feet and last between 8 and 9 minutes.

There was a wide mixture of people who took up the opportunity to have a flight in a glider. A number had expressed interest in returning for a longer introductory flight.

A busy day was had by all. The glider flying was shared by Peter Kelly, Max Hedt and Peter Wiessenfeld . The Jabiru was flown by the two Peter's and Sel Ellis. A number of club members helped with the ground operations and flight briefings for the would be glider pilots.

Gliding Fly and Try Day

The Gliding Fly and Try day set for Sunday 5th September was postponed due to inclement weather. Unfortunately the weather forecast for Sunday 12th September wasn't any better and it was again postponed. But the rains held off and a number of people came out to the airport anyway and had a try and fly in the Twin Astir even though it wasn't the official fly and try day. Those that did take up the opportunity came back as many do with great big smiles on their dials. Up to 3.00pm we had about 6 people go up in the Twin.

The official fly and try day will now be held in October on the Sunday following the fly-in being organized by the Horsham Aero Club for the 16th and 17th October. This will give the opportunity to distribute information about the Fly and Try day during the fly-in

So the new date for the Glider Try and Fly Day is Sunday 24th October

Lightning takes to sky

Sel Ellis took to the air on Saturday 11th September for the initial flight in his Lightning kit built aircraft. Apart from a minor glitch or two that are being ironed out as I type the first flight went very well and the owner/builder can be very proud of his work. As they become available we will include some photos of VH-ELZ as they become available.
