Jabiru J230 Unregistered

The club's J230, Jabiru 5109, is registered for "Air Work" which is not acceptable to CASA for RAA
aircraft. RAA have obtained a 12 month exemption to sort this out so we can re register. The aircraft is currently grounded until payment has been made. (The J120 is not affected by this issue.)

Also, Peter Weissenfeld advises that RAA not only require a record of landings, but also fuel on board at take off. We are changing from our current flight record book to using monthly flight sheets which will be in ring binder folders.

Finally, all members be be reminded to check the Maintenance Record Form for defects and oil change hours of both Jabiru aircraft.

The process of getting the J230 back in the air is well in hand and should be completed within the next week.
In the meantime the J120 Jabiru is available for hire and flight.

Where it all began... Way back in 1963

Left to right - Wes Barnett, Dr Tommy Thompson, Jim McConachie and Reg Stewart.

It all started way back in 1963 with a dream. A dream to start gliding club in Horsham, and these four men were part of that dream. Now fifty years later we are living that dream. So get involved in your club's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Keep Saturday 31st August 2013 free in your diary to attend the 50th Anniversary Dinner.

PW again available for instruction

Peter Weissenfeld is once again available to provide instruction for expiring RAA and glider pilots. Although Peter has been back in the air for a while now, with the return to service of the J120 those students who have had a little break from flying can get back into the air again. We would also like to remiend members and potential members that autumn and winter in the Wimmera is a great time to either start of your gliding journey or bring your skills back up if you've not flown for a while.

Contact Peter on 0419 137 129 to arrange getting back into the air either in a Jabiru or the Twin or Janus

The Little Jab is back

After an extended period in the workshop at Swan Hill the Little Jab (that's the J120 for those not in the know) is back in service. PW went and collected her on ANZAC Day. Peter has been heard to say that she now climbs much better that before. He has also been heard to say that it ticks along nicely and and now flies better than before.

So why not get online, make a booking and take the Little Jab for a spin, but not actually for a spin.

Pegase back in the air

This contribution to the Fly Paper is from Marta's blog. Thanks for your contribution Marta, even if I just copied it across from your blog to the club's.

Finally ... we got one more bird in the air today. After few weeks in the workshop Pegase was fit enough to hit the air. Selwyn did the complete rewiring and installed the new radio as well as CAI 303. The instrument panel isn't beautiful as yet and there are still some cosmetics to be done but at least it's serviceable. I completed the Form 2 inspection together with the corresponding paperwork and declared the aircraft airworthy - how cool does that sound, huh?
The 302 still has the turn point database from Poland. As soon as we started it up my name appeared on the screen and the "go to" point: Leszno. Well, it's gonna be a long flight starting well below final glide to destination. Arnold did the first flight and complained that the unit was beeping at him all the time. I think the gadget was just trying to say: "mate, you're not seriously trying to head for Leszno, are ya?"
a serious clean for the seat pan

last detailed inspections before rigging and a good wash
all nice and shiny ready to go on 17
